03 / The terms
Keep the return policy beside the warranty.
Write down both. A return answers one question; a longer warranty may answer another.
Return terms
Check when a return can be requested, the accepted reasons, the item's required condition and who pays shipping. For a change of mind on eBay, the seller's return terms matter. An item arriving faulty or unlike its description has a different help route.
Read eBay's return guidanceWarranty terms
Identify the provider, coverage period, covered faults, exclusions and claim steps. Save the actual terms for the item and destination. A warranty length alone does not tell you what a claim covers.
Read the US program warrantyA specific US refurbishment example.
eBay's US program table lists two years for Certified Refurbished, and one year for Certified Open Box, Excellent, Very Good and Good. These are program terms, not a general guarantee for all used, open-box or seller-refurbished purchases. Check the exact listing and warranty conditions before relying on them.
Keep the order-help route clear.
eBay Money Back Guarantee has eligibility requirements, covered reasons and deadlines. A changed mind and an item that fails to match the listing are handled differently. Follow the current policy for the eBay site where you purchased; the program does not replace reading the item description and seller terms.
Read the current Money Back Guarantee policyFour things to keep with your notes.
- The listing description and exact model/configuration.
- The seller's return window and return-shipping responsibility.
- The warranty provider, duration and full terms.
- Your order confirmation and the retailer's help route.
For an order already placed, start in the retailer's order help. Second Squint cannot make a seller accept a return or decide a warranty claim.
